Golden State Warriors Post Actions
It’s early in the 2021-22 NBA season, but it appears that the Warriors have the ability to make a deep playoff run as they did a few years back. Anyone who has and is currently watching the Warriors knows that they have a system predicated on ball and player movement, with arguably the most skilled player the game of basketball has ever seen in Stephen Curry. How he and his teammates play off one another and how connected they are on the offensive end is one of my favorite things to watch and study as a basketball coach.
In the video below, the Warriors use the post as a hub to trigger movement and action amongst their players. Their most common movement is a “post split”, which involves two players on the strong-side executing a screening action. What makes the Warriors so effective in this basic action is that they run it with an intent to score and have the ability to read the defense and counter whatever the opponent tries to take away from them. You can also see that their players clearly understand each other’s strengths (who should screen for who in the split action) and play with an overall unselfish mentality.
